Boat Show

Its that time of year for Sunbird, the London Boat Show (8th - 17th Jan) is only a couple of weeks away and you think sorting out your Christmas presents is difficult. Try arranging for an Oceanis 54, 50 and 31 delivered to the Royal Victoria Docks London. Anyway to help relieve the stress Vi has produced a number of targeted e-newsletters to keep Sunbird's various client groups informed.

Highlighting their expanding global network the brochure has an international flavour with key images highlighting office locations and builds on our previous advertising and exhibition work.

Holidays not to be sniffed at...

'Give us a brochure that's different to other holiday brochures...but doesn't cost more to print'

That was the brief from If Only... for their 2010 brochure. Following on from last years very successful brochures we were asked to come up trumps again. This time we've combined all three brochures into one 'Coffee Table' style book so that all 3 regions, Arabia, Indian Ocean and Southeast Asia are promoted together. The cover is a touchy feely uncoated black with white print that will really stand out on the shelf against the sea of blues and greens you'd expect to see. The brochure then opens into brilliant fuchsia flysheet welcoming message, but that's not all, we've also scented the paper with sandalwood to evoke tropical climes and set the scene for the reader. Apart from anything else this gave If Only... a great PR opportunity for in-trade promotion and gives their travel agent clients another reason to highlight the brochure to their customers.

The only downside is that these brochures are the closest this designer is going to get to the Seychelles...this year anyway.

Not that it was a quiet day in the office on Friday but the Halloween tradition must be maintained. Mr. McGregor carved our seasonal pumpkin with his own fair hands before we nipped out for some spirits of our own. The camera makes it look like there's a bit of a furnace going on in there but it's just the one wee candle.

RSA Interims Scotland at The Surgeons Hall Edinburgh

RSA held a very successful Interims event in Edinburgh last night. The Keynote speaker was amazing......OK I'm biased it was me presenting on Personal Branding! After the event we went to an Italian Restaurant where RSA's Emma embraced that traditional Italian/German/Scottish dish of Chip and Frankfurter Pizza!! Edinburgh is sooo international. How is the diet going Emma?

Our studio administrator Alyson is nearly 30 today...unfortunately the wee soul is off sick. Still that's no reason to let the birthday cake go to waste so the team did the decent thing and scoffed the lot.

Well here's a preview of the new logo we've devised for the St. Andrews Bed & Breakfast Association. Works fine in black and white and we'll be rolling it out in all sorts of funky colours. Just got the website to crack on with and 2010 will see the official launch.

Well the first of the new Business School literature is off to print today. We commissioned illustrator Patrick Morgan to create images that will really make these publications stand out. Illustration is something we see less and less of but in an age of cheap library photography it's worth remembering the power of drawings. Here's a sneak preview, we'll let you see more when it's finished.

PQQs and ITTs are they getting the best creative?

I heard a professor express a concern that his institution was churning out students who were brilliant at passing exams but knew "hee haw" about the subject. It made me wonder, as I am doing one just now, if the Public Sector are creating and selecting agencies that are brilliant at filling in forms, ticking boxes and binding big thick documents full of accounts/H&S documents/Equal Opportunities Procedures/ISO9001 Procedures et al but are not perhaps the best agencies to be creating and producing their communication material. Just a thought.

Offshore Europe

Just back from attending Offshore Europe, in Furry Boot City, with a client. Some great exhibition stands and exhibits. Big show this year and a lot of talk about sustainable resources and the depleting oil reserves. And, just to push the alternative resources message, the gale force high winds made the drive home rather, well, interesting. My "Donald Trump" was windswept and interesting too.

Short bit of video we put together for UGG to be shown on the big screen at the Trafford Centre in Manchester. Short and sweet. As part of the campaign we've also produced megasites, 48 and 96 sheet posters, adverts and window displays.

TGIF! Busy, busy, busy, what a week. UGG's Manchester promo campaign is in the can. Babcock's marketing material for Offshore Europe is in production. The Business School got another installment of fab illustrations and If Only... are happy with our proposals for their 2010 brochure. STA love their new website design and we've finally broken the mental block surrounding St. Andrew's Bed & Breakfast Association. Did I miss anyone out?

A wonderful little film shown at the Edinburgh film festival which will hopefully be on general release soon. A great story with a wonderfully engaging and friendly style disarming the viewer from the darker themes contained within, a story which will stay with you once you leave the cinema. Design, typography and soundtrack are all first class.
